Video Film: Course Syllabus (Rough Draft)
Objectives: this is a production class. We will be learning about storytelling, journalism, and video production techniques through the process of making videos. We will brainstorm ideas, write scripts, storyboard our scripts, research, prepare interview questions, learn about lighting, sound and video recording and editing, and more. To facilitate this process, we will learn how to edit digital videos using Adobe Premiere.
Grades: Grades will be based on exercises and participation.
Exercises: Exercises will be used to develop and practice skills. Examples of exercises might be creating a vignette, or documentary. Exercises are not a free-for-all; they will be assigned by Mr. Richards. If you are not directly working on the campus news, information, and vignette show, you should be working on an exercise.
Participation: The goal of the class is to produce biweekly (fortnightly) campus news, information, and vignette shows. Your participation is vital to that process. Your participation level will be determined through observation. As a production class, you will be expected to produce a part or parts of biweekly (fortnightly) campus news, information, and vignette shows. You will be graded on your efforts in achieving that goal.
Work to the best of your ability; if you race through your work or procrastinate, you are not working to the best of your ability (one thing that will make Mr. Richards assume you are not working to the best of your ability is doing work for another class during time you are supposed to be working on your work for Video Film).
